The bcalmbzen website is expanding to include a newly forming ministry, Life of Virtuous Evolution. LoVE is an annex community to any (or no) religious beliefs. It is a community of those that want to emphasize the positive aspects of their beliefs. This blogger has always strived to not favor one religion over another or to dismiss those that consider themselves agnostic or atheist.
Through mindfulness and mediation, I gave thought to the many religions of the world and the myriad of belief systems. It is not hard to pick a major religion and know what they are against. What does someone do that breaks their rules? What is the punishment, in this world or another? What I don't know much about is the positive tenants of religions and belief systems. Worse, I found it difficult to understand how people play out their beliefs in their everyday life. What is the emphasis? An example of a religion that behaves in a demonstrative way: Sikh teachings stress the concept of sharing, or giving to the needy for the benefit of the community. Gurdwaras are open to anyone of any faith for a free vegetarian meal. People eat together, and the kitchen is maintained and serviced by Sikh community volunteers.
Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism: Examples of 12 religions, 12 belief systems, belief systems within belief systems...we want to collect and assemble comments from everyone. This will form the bases of the ministry.
What is your belief system?
How do you live daily, in a positive way, to express your beliefs?
What is the positive result of your efforts on the community or other people in general?
Will you share, in simple terms, what you do and why you do it?
Once a person identifies virtues, they can work to discover how they can evolve and improve, be more effective and help more people in their own community and the community at large.
The worst thing that can happen is that you can't think of a single, positive aspect of your belief system. In that case, seek out a leader of your church and ask them to help you. You can't be your best if you only know what you can't do but have no idea what you could do. And THAT is evolution of thought and action.
